A Week Since Editor 1.1: What We've Been Building
By Andy Stubbs ยท October 10, 2026
CUT TO: a busy week since Editor 1.1.
Scenista was always meant to be more than a place to write. It's a place to be read, to find other writers, and to share your work on your own terms. This week's updates are about exactly that.
Your profile, your way
Every writer now has a proper profile. Add a photo, a short bio, where you're based and what you do (screenwriter, playwright, director, script reader and more), plus your website and links to IMDb, X, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube.
Set it all up in Settings โ Profile, with a live preview as you go. Your photo then appears wherever your name does: on your scripts in Discover, in comments, and at the top of the page.
Follow the writers you like
Found a writer whose work you love? Follow them from their profile, or straight from the Reader while you're reading their script.
When someone you follow publishes a new script, you'll get a notification, and their latest work appears first on Discover under From Writers You Follow. You'll also hear when someone new follows you. Follower and following lists are on every profile, so it's easy to see who's reading whom.
Share an excerpt, not the whole script
Not every script is ready to be read in full by the world. Writers on a paid plan can now publish an excerpt: choose exactly which pages readers see, and keep the rest to yourself.
In Script Settings โ Publishing, switch Show Readers to Excerpt and pick your pages from real thumbnails of your script. Click, Shift-click or drag across pages, or use a quick pick: the first ten pages, the first act, everything or nothing. Extra sections, like a synopsis, can be shared or held back too.
Readers see the pages you've chosen, with the rest blurred and marked as not shared by the writer, so it's always clear what they're reading. On Discover, excerpts carry a small badge, and readers who only want complete scripts can tick Full scripts only.
Credit where it's due
Some scripts are adaptations, some are classics and some were written with the help of AI. In Script Settings โ Details you can now name the Original Author, who is credited as the writer while you're shown as the publisher, and add a label: Public domain or AI generated. Labels show on your script's card and in the Reader, so readers always know what they're looking at.
And a few more things
- A new home page that shows at a glance what you can do here: write, read and get your work found
- The Story Bible now feeds autocomplete, so characters and locations you've added there are offered as you type
- The excerpt page picker opens instantly when your script hasn't changed since you last used it
- The Exports page sorts by any column, jumps to any page and has a search box
- Script cards have tidier labels: small icons beside the page that show their name when you hover
- Confirmations now use Scenista's own dialogs everywhere, instead of the browser's pop-ups
- The cookie banner has a Customise option, so you can turn analytics cookies off before you accept
As always, if something doesn't work the way you expect, use the Feedback button and tell us. We read every report.
FADE OUT.
