Editor 1.1: Notes on Every Line, Sections and a Story Bible
By Andy Stubbs · October 4, 2026
FADE IN on the biggest Editor update since we launched.
Editor 1.1 is about everything that surrounds the words on the page: the notes you leave yourself, the documents that travel with a script, and the world you're building. Here's what's new.
Notes on any line
Every writer leaves themselves notes: fix this beat, too on the nose, plant this earlier. Now they can live exactly where they belong. Hover beside any element in your script (a scene heading, a line of dialogue, an action beat) and click + to attach a note.
A small flag in the margin marks every note, and the new Notes tab in the right panel lists them all in script order, with the scene and the first words of the line. Click one to jump straight to it. Notes are private, and they move with their line when you rewrite.
Sections: more than the script
A screenplay rarely travels alone. With Sections you can add a synopsis, a character breakdown, a treatment or anything else, and write it right in the Editor on real pages, laid out just like your script.
Use Manage Sections to add, rename and reorder them, before or after the script itself. When you export, they print in that order, with the title page first and the script numbered from page one.
A Story Bible for your world
The new Story Bible keeps your locations and characters in one place, each with its own private notes. It's built from your script as you write, so it's always in step with the page.
Layout settings for every script
Every script now has its own layout settings:
- Act breaks as script lines: centred, in capitals, underlined, and never stranded at the foot of a page
- Each act on a new page
- Scene numbers on the left, the right, both or neither
- Title page in the PDF, or not
- A page number on the first page, or not
The Editor, the page count, your PDF export and the Reader all follow them, so what you see is what you print.
Faster to work in
- Ctrl+S saves, and Ctrl+F searches your script
- Export PDF now sits on the toolbar
- The scene navigator jumps anywhere, even deep into a long script
- Settings, notes and sections save the moment you change them
And a few more things
- The Reader turns pages with a swipe on phones and tablets
- Your Dashboard sorts by any column, jumps straight to any page, and fits any screen from phone to desktop
We've also rebuilt a lot of the engine behind the scenes, so saves are faster and the whole site is ready for what comes next.
As always, if something doesn't work the way you expect, use the Feedback button and tell us. We read every report.
FADE OUT.
